Alien invasion is not what you were expecting. A few, isolated individuals can become the unsuspecting hosts for an invasion. They might have to betray humanity but the trade-off are super-powers which separate them from the world. The day will come, however, when they have to choose.

“James’ eye was caught by a black shape where it had briefly landed. He stood, immobile, waiting as it walked calmly towards him… Recognition snapped him out of his paralysis and he tried to retreat, all the while not daring to look away from him. From it. Suddenly, it came at him with an incredible rush of speed striking him heavily in the chest winding him and he felt the pain of a tree slamming spikily into his back. It held him by the throat, smiling. Human face, human body. There was nothing visible to say that it was anything other than a man but it was not, he had seen it flying. James had scarcely thought of round-arming it when he was struck violently on the side of his head and then on the forehead against the tree trunk on the backhand. “Don’t think of it.” Its face was now inches from his. It could not speak without its breath flooding James’ own open mouth and nostrils. A fleck of it’s spittle landed on James’ cheek. “You’re dead. You don’t matter.” It’s breath should have reeked of rotting meat it was merely slightly acidic. James felt himself lifted into the air and thrown through some lesser branches back into the direction of his car. “You’d better run.” James ran. This time he staggered back avoiding the trees as he struggled to take enough oxygen into his lungs. His first few glances back revealed that the monster was following him. It was in no hurry to catch him. He caught enough breath to put on a trot and create some distance. The monster was going to kill him and there was nothing that he could do. He could not fight against something that knew his intentions at the same time that he did. He could not outrun it. Alone, for reasons he did not know and by a creature whose origins he could only guess at, he was going to die. Physically, he was all but spent. Mentally he was completely bereft of any ideas. Fight or flight? Both would lead to his death. “No!” The cry from behind him spurred him into sudden flight. After a few seconds he began to wonder about the shout. The monster was coming for him but, with that cry, it was not the confident, calm monster as certain of James’ death as James had been. The pain in his chest was intense and he had to fight against the desire to stop. A dip in the ground forced him to look up. He saw light ahead, not the distant lights of a town but a huge, white rectangular light…”
