How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
This is a mainstream suspense thriller, perhaps with a touch of strange – ‘Dan Brown meets James Patterson with a touch of Stephen King’ as one reader described the novel. Anyone looking for teen-romance will not find it here.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
There’s lots of help and support out there if you look around – I myself have even written a book especially for aspiring writers in an attempt to show them techniques, tips and tricks to navigate through the maze of present-day publishing.
Eric J. Gates has had a curious life filled with the stuff of thriller novels. Writing Operating Systems for Supercomputers, cracking cryptographic codes under extreme pressure using only paper and pen and teaching Cyberwarfare to spies are just a few of the moments he’s willing to recall. He is an ex-International Consultant who has travelled extensively worldwide, speaks several languages, and has had articles and papers published in technical magazines in six different countries, as well as radio and TV spots. His specialty, Information Technology Security, has brought him into contact with the Military and Intelligence communities on numerous occasions. He is also an expert martial artist, holding 14 black belt degrees in distinct disciplines. He has taught his skills to Police and Military personnel, as well as to the public. He is the author of several thriller novels and collaborates with other authors and Writer Networks.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
The novel, the first in a series, is about vampires in the present day. I wanted to get back to the essense of the classic vampire tales whilst introducing this into the high-tech world of Federal Agents, spies, genetics and Vatican conspiracies. I also wanted to present a credible explanation for the ‘vampires’ and their existence throughout history. The result is ‘the CULL’ series – two female protagonists with unusual skills investigating a ‘simple’ serial killer case that reveals much more.
