Three orphans from Kenya stow away on an airplane to embark on a desperate quest to meet the Secretary General of the United Nations in New York City and deliver a message they hope will help millions of homeless and hurting children in Africa. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz becomes their guidebook as they journey alone across the United States. The trio–one with HIV, one blind amputee, and one who hasn’t spoken for years after watching her family slaughtered–find themselves embroiled in a situation beyond their imaginations as they get close to meeting their goal.

About the Author
Lisa Brochu and Tim Merriman have spent the last four decades helping people connect with our global natural and cultural heritage. They have traveled millions of air miles to train park guides and do planning projects with parks, zoos, museums, nature centers and aquariums in 24 countries. Of nine trips to China their favorite included planning the visitor experience at a panda reserve in Wolong valley in Szechuan. They have also worked nine times in E. Africa and cherish memories of two trips out with mountain gorillas in Rwanda as the most exciting and memorable experiences they have ever had on their many journeys.
This is their first work of adult fiction, but they have several other non-fiction books in print. They are near completion on a sequel to The Leopard Tree that follows the young people into their careers as adults.
They raise miniature Appaloosa horses on their small Kona coffee farm in the heart of Captain Cook on the Big Island of Hawaii. Tim teaches tourism and hospitality at Hawaii Community College and Lisa volunteers as a horse leader with the Therapeutic Horsemanship Program of Hawaii.
