How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
Fantasy writing demands a lot of world building. But a writer should never, ever let the world get in the way of the action and the characters. This book moves pretty fast even though I do try to keep the writing rich with detail. The second most important aspect of fantasy is the magic. Magic should always have rules. And a price to pay to use it.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Read!!! I always cringe when I hear of writers who say they hate to read. How can you explore all the great stuff that’s being done in whatever genre you write if you never read? My second piece of advice is to join a writing critique group. They’ve helped me so much in finding things that try to slip past.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I’ve always had a fascination with twins and their link to each other. I also have a soft spot for firestarters. With Aidah and her brother Tavish, I got to play with both of these things on a grand scale. Journey To Landaran is the first book in what will be five book series.
